Battery service is a vital component of any UPS maintenance program. In
order to maintain 100% up-time and to protect your investment, regular quarterly
or semi-annual inspections are strongly recommended since even one faulty
battery can bring down an entire system.
Semi-annual inspections for sealed, non-gassing battery systems should be performed two to four times per year depending on you installation and the environment in which they operate. All battery inspections include the following checks:
Cell/unit tops for cleanliness
Torque on the inter-battery connections
Integrity of battery/rack cabinets
Evidence of any corrosion on the terminals and connectors
Cells/units for cracks, leaks, and excessive bulging of containers
Measure and record internal cell resistance
Re-torque of all inter-battery connections to battery manufacturers specifications
Individual battery load test on all units in the systemMeasure and record all inter-battery connection resistances on systems allowing such, using a calibrated digital micro-ohmmeter
