UM Switch is an external module with 4 sockets for controlling the start-up and shutdown of each connected device at all times. The various functions are controlled or programmed by means of UM Console UPS supervision applications (included in Solution-Pac). UM Switch can be used in connection with a UPS, taking advantage of its battery autonomy relief functions, or alone, as a remote-controlled intelligent switch.

4 possible applications
UM Switch can be used for the following functions:
> Remote rebooting of a locked device without cutting the power supply to the other components connected to the same module. This function is particularly useful if the device is in a restricted access area or if no qualified person is on site ...
> Sequential start-up of the various devices connected to the module. This function avoids overloads during start-up and any initialization problems at the communication ports.
> Sequential shutdown of the various devices in the event of a mains power cut. This function optimises the battery autonomy provided by the UPS used in connection with UM Switch. Using his supervision software, the user can program the longest operating period for priority sockets (servers and hubs) and specify a rapid shutdown of non-priority sockets (printers, connected stations, etc.).
> Energy-saving by programming a shutdown and delayed restart for certain applications during the night or week-end.

Ergonomic design
UM Switch was specially designed to provide maximum advantages to the user: n aesthetically, it harmonises with other products in the Merlin Gerin range, blending into any type of environment. n each socket can be identified with an adhesive icon, making it easy to recognise the unit connected. n the back of UM Switch is hollow, for channeling power cables. This avoids having unsightly bundles of cables and ensures the physical safety of the connections.

Multi-drop capacity
Each UM Switch module is fitted with two serial ports and a block of micro-switches for configuration purposes. This means that up to 4 boxes can be connected in series, enabling up to 16 sockets to be controlled individually! This function is of particular interest with high-capacity UPSs, like the Pulsar EX or Comet models. The electrical power supply to a whole computer room can be controlled from a single supervision system.
